A tax audit has been launched against former President José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero

Patricia Abad, during her appearance on the program Espejo Público, discusses the compatibility between a criminal case and a Tax Agency audit, both of which have been initiated against the former Socialist president. The tax law expert explains that the Tax Agency must open this administrative proceeding to prevent the statute of limitations from expiring for the tax years 2021 through 2024, even if it must later suspend the proceeding while the criminal case is ongoing. On the other hand, the expert questions the defense’s arguments aimed at halting the investigation and insists on the duty to set a public example.
